As a person who never watched any of the Transformers movies or cartoons, going at this game was an interesting experience. The game is not just for hard core Transformers fans, new comers can easily come in and fully understand the story, all though they never explain why Autobots and Decepticons started fighting in the first place, but nothing a little bit of research can’t explain.
The game play feels like Gears of War, the perspective is third person shooter, but you can beat somebody down with your weapon. The controls are very easy to understand and should take no time for you to master the basic commands. You can play the campaign either alone or with 2 other friends (online), which is very cool. However the campaign feels kind of repetitive. Most of the time you be going from point A to point B, activate or destroy something then move to point C, there are rarely moments where they change up the game play of the campaign. One cool aspect is that you can choose what Transformer you want to use before starting the mission, each Transformer has an unique ability some can dash, others can whirlwind melee attacks etc.
The graphics of the game are absolutely gorgeous, if Cybertron was real it would definitely look like that. Everything is very mechanical like, the fights are very destructive and you will see debris falling all over the place. The music is pretty nice, although the Sound FX is usually all you hear, the few moments where the music is playing you can tell is a good orchestra for the mood.
It should take you between 10-12 hours to beat both Autobots and Deceptcons campaign, after beating it a new survival is unlocked which allows you to survive waves of enemies coming at you.
The online multiplayer is awesome, it feels like Call of Duty mixed with World of Warcraft. In team deathmatch you can have one player healing the team, another going stealth, another go beserk with whirlwind etc. You can choose your Transformers perks, weapons and special abilities, which adds to the fun of multiplayer. The only problem however is that there’s not a lot of people playing online so finding a match can be hard sometimes. Also there’s a lag issue sometimes which can really screw you up. Either way the multiplayer is definitely a blast to play and I highly suggest you try it out.
Whether your a transformers fan or not this is a pretty good game, it’s nothing amazing but it is truly an above average experience. The 3 player co-op is something very interesting that I highly suggest you try it and the online multiplayer is more than meets the eyes.
