The little that I got to play I must say that the game looks amazing, definitely check it out if you are craving a good platformer.

Starhawk is a third person shooter that focuses on strategy as well as it’s core shooting and vehicle centric gameplay. While I have to say it comes in quite the shiny package, what lies inside is a bit of a dated mess.

The feature and center of acclaim for the series is the multiplayer. I’m proud to say it is still quite strong and pretty fun. My biggest problem is that the formula is a little dated. Half of the time I spent playing the multiplayer I was thinking about Conkers Live and Reloaded. Most of what is attempted works well, but its being done better somewhere else.

They have a co-op mode that’s similar to Gears of War’s horde mode which is fun, but like the rest of the game really just made me feel like playing something else. I like when game developers borrow and build upon others ideas, but this was just theft.

Starhawk has one of the most intuitive menu systems I have ever seen. It cuts the middle man right out of the equation by letting you navigate through one consistent pause menu. You can add a local player, search for a game and any one of the other features by pressing start at any time.

If you’re playing single player and you’re getting bored you can just press start and drop right in to another game mode. It may not sound like much, but when you wonder why you aren’t familiar with the loading screen you will have this feature to thank.

Another great quality of this game is the “Build & Battle” feature, which allows you to add fortifications or structures on the fly. This allows you to really go wild with strategy. It’s a shame that most of the strategy you establish will be squandered by any passing Hawk (Starhawk’s aircraft) that feels the need to waste your time.

Some vehicular balance is in need here, as I found most of my deaths to be random explosions from an airborne enemy. This shouldn’t derail you from trying to establish a strategy, because when given the right circumstances and your team defends a wave of enemy attackers you do feel quite accomplished.

I can’t say I am pleased with this bit of news, I’m just dying to play that game but like Shigeru Miyamoto once said “A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever.”

Usually a product like this would retail for $419.99 if you include the 2 years of Xbox Live, but if you do the math after 2 years paying $14.99/month it will add up to $458 (plus tax)…boy what a deal. If you terminate the contract early Microsoft will charge termination fees and they will send Master Chief himself to your house so better pay up.
