As our anticipation for this game builds up we get more and more eager to our hands on Diablo III ASAP. Well unfortunately ASAP seems to be further and further away with every bit of news we get for the game. Activision announced today on an earnings call that Diablo III should be expected to hit store shelves anywhere between April and June, so we got a good amount of time before we can get our hands on this highly anticipated title.

Sad to say the least but if that’s what takes to make the next big Diablo game than we can wait…Now if you excuse me I have to go cry myself to sleep.

We have been giving Diablo III a lot of attention lately, but what can you expect when rumors start flying left and right about this highly anticipated game? The latest buzz around the internet is the “confirmation” that Diablo will be coming to consoles. As tweeted by Blizzard’s community manager who said:

 
“Yup. Josh Mosqueira is lead designer for the Diablo console project.”

He later on went to tweet:

“Yup, wasn’t meant to be an announcement. We’re still exploring a console version, but more importantly working on the PC/Mac version.”

Diablo III has been teased to be coming to consoles for quite a while and while Blizzard’s portfolio would indicate anything but a console release, it seems like it’s going to happen sooner or later. Forgive me for saying this but playing a Blizzard game with a controller just feels…wrong.

Well it was good while it lasted, but the rumor that Diablo III would be coming out on February 1st has been vanquished by Blizzard’s community manager who tweeted

“Diablo III does not have a release date. Any store or person claiming otherwise is guessing.”

Sorry for getting your hopes up, but we did say it was a rumor, so don’t blame us we’re just as disappointed as you are.

According to the picture below acquired by Joystiq, Diablo III is being launched on February 1st. This picture from a Best Buy in Minnesota can somewhat confirm this rumor, and to add more fuel to the fire an UK retailer is showing that the game will be coming out February 3rd.

No official announcements from either Blizzard or Activision, but they did say that they would be launching the game “early 2012,” we just never thought it would had been this early.

Ready for some sad news? Blizzard Entertainment has announced today that Diablo III won’t be hitting store shelves this year. Instead the game will be release in early 2012. “With every game we make, the temptation is always very strong to launch as soon as possible. However, we didn’t put so many years of work into Diablo III to release a game that was almost ready. The beta test is going very well, and we look forward to making the most of the extra time we’re taking to deliver an experience that lives up to our vision for the game and the expectations of our players.” Mike Morhaime (CEO of Blizzrd).

While the news that we won’t be getting the game early is quite sad. I do admire Blizzard’s choice to hold on to the development until they think the game is ready. If only more companies did that, this industry would be in a much better place. No official release date yet, but for now if you have the beta enjoy the game.

Those of you who would love to play Diablo III with a controller, here some good news to brighten your day. At the Blizzard Entertainment’s job listing, they are looking for a Diablo III Lead Designer for consoles.

“Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a talented and experienced designer for the Diablo team. This position involves setting design direction for a team, as well as contributing heavily to game design. The ideal candidate has prior experience in console game development, proven experience in game design, an exceptional aptitude for critical thinking and analysis, outstanding people skills, boundless creativity, a strong visual aesthetic, extensive knowledge of Diablo, and a longstanding passion for playing games.”

Now of course this is not an “official” statement from Blizzard, but sure would be awesome to see Blizzard bring one of their big name titles to the consoles for once.
